How to tie off a skin tag

Skin tags, just how do you remove them? It is not always easy to get a doctor of medicine to refer you to the dermatology unit for treatment of cutaneous papillomas or as they are more commonly called, skin tags.

The medical profession considers a skin tag, like a mole a cosmetic problem, which is why it is so hard to get a referral for their removal. Another problem is that most insurance companies won’t cover cosmetic procedures. This can leave you paying a very hefty bill to get rid of them despite it being a relatively simple process that can be tackled at home.

Medical procedures generally involve burning off with a laser, freezing with liquid nitrogen or surgery. As well as being costly, these methods come with other risks and may leave you with a scar. You should always be cautious when trying any home remedy for removing tags and its far safer to buy a treatment specifically designed for moles, warts and skin tag removal.

If you are determined to do it the hard way then probably the safest and quickest DIY home remedy is to tie off the tag. This works by cutting off the blood supply and involves tying a piece of string really tight around its base.

Naturally, how easy this is will depend on where the tags are located! So it’s possible that you might need a hand to do this:

  • Use strong string
  • Tie at the base as tightly as you can (this is where someone else can help)
  • Double knot so that it will not come undone. Keep on for a few days.

This method is highly effective and because the skin tag has lost its blood supply, in due course it will die and simply fall off.

Tying off is not without risks and it is always wise to have your doctor confirm that it is not malignant before trying any home remedy, especially if you have noticed changes is its color or size. Complications might also mean that you have to seek professional help, particularly if the whole tag doesn’t come off or it becomes infected. So if you are going to try this, you really do need to ensure your safety by getting help and making sure you sterilize the string.

Don’t you agree that it’s a much better idea to spend a few dollars on a tried and tested system that will work safely in 3 days to remove warts, moles and skin tags!
